Custom Home Surrounded By Majestic Oaks
Designed in 1963 by San Francisco’s principal architect Robert J. Malerbi for his personal residence, this unique mid-century modern, Millbrae Highlands home incorporates stunning esthetic features designed to evoke a sense of inspiration and peace. The gated entrance welcomes you into a courtyard and draws you in to explore the modern open floor plan beyond.
The gourmet kitchen features a large island with granite counter-tops, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Thermador cooktop, two ovens, Bosch dishwasher, solid cherry cabinetry and filtered bay view. The living room features floor to ceiling windows, a wood burning fireplace and unique, 14-foot vaulted beam ceilings. Wooden patio doors lead from the living space to a sun-drenched private deck overlooking mature oak trees. Artistically designed masonry accents are dotted throughout the interior and exterior lending an artistic flair and modern touch. Maple hardwood flooring and the home’s two fireplaces add warmth and comfort to the living space. The master bedroom enjoys a view of the courtyard, walk-in closet and in suite bathroom. Two bedrooms and a hall bath complete the upper floor.
An interior staircase leads to the first-floor great-room which features a wall of windows overlooking the wooded landscape. This multifunctional space includes a wood burning fireplace with floating concrete hearth, remodeled bathroom with slate tile, and large laundry room with ample storage. From the great room descend an exterior staircase to the home’s oak studded garden retreat. Two large basement areas and a two car fully finished garage complete the home. Modern, artistic, and surrounded by nature, yet close to the area’s award-winning schools, restaurants, and shopping, this truly is the perfect place to call home.
What We Love About This Home:
We loved living in this house because it is beautiful. It was perfectly laid out for us, has a lot of light in it, and felt like we were in the forest even though we were in a suburban area. Our whole street has this feeling because of the oak trees.
We loved the way the master bedroom looks right into the patio, bringing the outdoors right into the room.
The open kitchen/dining area/living room made for great and easy entertaining. The great room worked very well as a man cave/office.
The laundry room is the most well-equipped, beautiful laundry room we’ve ever had.
We were very close to the airport, but we never heard the noise because there’s a hill between us and it.
We loved living on the peninsula because we could get to San Francisco without crossing a bridge, and it is close to the redwoods and many beautiful trails to hike on and roads to drive on. The Sawyer Camp Trail, which runs through the watershed, is less than half a mile from the house. We could also get to the beach in under 30 minutes.
